Preparing YOUR Home for Sale in Bryan College Station, Texas

Summer fever has hit Bryan College Station!  Families are preparing lists of what needs to be done for vacations and summer school, and moving season is upon us. The sunny, warm weather that Texas has to offer brings in buyers from all over and the sun that shines through home windows provides an extra homey feel that winter lacks. If you are interested in selling your home in the next couple of months, there are a variety of things that you can do to make your home even more appealing to buyers.

Buyers are eager to find a house that fits their budget and requirements over the summer, due to the holiday break that it provides and children being between school years. Often, all that a potential buyer needs is a small push to go ahead and make the purchase.

Sprucing up your home by doing a bit of summer cleaning will make it irresistible to your potential buyer. A few quick tips will take off the grime that tends to coat the majority of houses as a result of their daily use. Taking a couple of extra minutes to go beyond traditional cleaning and make your home smell pleasant will add a distinctive attraction.
Even if cleaning and organization is not your strong point, it is not difficult to follow a few easy steps to set your home in order. One thing that you can do is create your own customized checklist. Walk through each room of your house with a notepad and write down any grimy areas of the room you are in or anything that needs fixing.

Here are several ideas that could be included on your checklist:

Clean your ceiling fans. This part of the room is often overlooked by homeowners. It is such a normal part of a room that we tend to ignore the fans. This can accumulate a lot of dust overtime and look tacky if not taken care of. Dust accumulation is also a major cause of allergy problems. In order to clean your fans, slide a pillowcase over the fan blade and pull it off, allowing the dust from the blade to fall inside the pillowcase. You will avoid a big mess and have cleaner air!

Be sure that you launder or vacuum any curtains you may have in your home. This can also add allergens, pollen and dust into the air and create a musty smell and feel to a room.

While you are taking care of the dust in these two major areas, be sure you also tend to the dust that accumulates in the small, hidden places of your home. The tops of coffee tables, dressers, night stands, windows, crown moldings, and large appliances can be coated in dust not immediately visible to the eye. Make sure you get in all cracks and crevices. Sunlight has a tendency to highlight dust in an area, and if you want to market your home as bright and sunny over the summer, you will not want the sun working against you.

Vacuuming furniture is a big part of eliminating dust and dirt as well as smells from your home. Pet hair, dirt from shoes or food and dusts can accumulate in the crevices of furniture so be sure to lift cushions and vacuum underneath.

Clean pillows in your home. We often clean pillow cases, normally when we wash our bed sheets. However, pillows themselves are typically forgotten and not cleaned. If not properly maintained, they can contain mold, bacteria, smells and stains. As mentioned before, cleaning the fabrics of your home will improve the smell of your home.

Clear out cobwebs that may be in the corners of your house. Take a dust buster, small vacuum or vacuum attachment and tackle the little critters and their nests that may have inhabited the unseen corners of rooms.
Clean the windows. This is important in order to create a polished look for your home. Cleaning off smudges and grime from windows will also let in more light.

Organize and purge your home of junk that is unnecessary and taking up needed space. Go through closets that sit untouched and random drawers that hold miscellaneous objects, throwing away whatever is not needed.

In order to go the extra mile, and set a refreshing mood in your home, here are a couple of other ideas:

Light a few candles in the area. This will set the mood to a homey atmosphere and eliminate any bad odors.

Consider investing in a Glade plug-in that releases a burst of a fresh scent into the air periodically.

Put a bit of unsweetened lemonade powder in your dishwasher soap dispenser. Run your dishwasher on empty through a cycle one time to release the fresh, lemony scent into your home and kitchen area.

Cut up a few fresh lemons and squeeze them into a tall pitcher of lemonade or add them to some iced tea. You can peel the lemons and use the outer rind or use the remaining lemons to put down your kitchen sink drain. As you turn on the disposal, a fresh lemon scent will kill any foul smells in your kitchen and will even function to eliminate some germs.

Open your windows and let the cool breezes blow through your house. You may be surprised with the smell of a neighbor barbecuing dinner, or mowing their lawn. This will also rid your home of any stagnant air that may have been trapped in a room or area of the house.

For the finishing touch, pick up some flowers from the local grocery store. Never underestimate the power of a beautiful bouquet of daisies during the summer season. Not only will they brighten a room, but they will also release their fresh, grassy aroma into the room. Flowers have the tendency to bring a smile to people’s faces. Not only will they put you in a cheery mood, but they may also affect any company you have through the house, including potential buyers.
